1. Add tasteful, generic decorations. Don’t get too personal or religious with your decorations.

2. Trade non-seasonal for seasonal decorations. This helps the house feel less cluttered.

3. Don’t imitate Scrooge. Don’t avoid decorations all together. People expect SOME holiday spirit.

4. Think green…and metallic, and white. Drowning your home in bright green, red and gold can be a bit overwhelming. Go a little lower-key while trying to sell your home.

5. Remember the joy of entertaining. Make sure that your home (especially kitchen) looks inviting for holiday entertaining. Remember: People looking to buy your Colorado Springs home are buying a home … AND a lifestyle.

6. Be mindful of valuable gifts. Do not leave valuable heirlooms and/or gifts out during showings.

7. Keep up decorations for a limited time.Dave Sears, co-founder of OptHome, a homeownership resource Web site in Winchester, Mass., advises a maximum of two weeks before and two after Christmas.”

8. Add warmth and energy. Consider putting your holiday lights on a timer so that home buyers can enjoy them, but your ultility bill doesn’t go through the roof.

9. Minimize smells. Instead of the standard artificial-smell plug-ins, consider mulling some cider or baking cooking before a showing.

10. Play soothing music. “Most people get their fill of jingles and carols, so suggest nonseasonal favorites that appeal year-round, says Sears.”

11. Use timely marketing materials. Make sure that your Greenhaven Realtor® is marketing your home with seasonally appropriate photos.

12. Remember winter’s threat. Keep your walkways and sidewalks free of snow and ice.

These are simple and effective ways to enhance the sale of your Colorado Springs home this holiday season.

The Cross on Dublin Boulevard

As you drive east on Dublin Boulevard from Powers, you will see a makeshift cross towering above some trees on the north side of Dublin – just past Poudre.

Why is there a cross here?

Well, if you have lived in Stetson Hills for more than a year, you will know that that there has been some major building and earth moving going on off Dublin Blvd.. Even today, you can see a pile of displaced houses waiting for a new home.

One home FOUND a new home about a year ago. It was torn off its foundation, boarded up and hauled off to a new location.

Anyway, BEFORE this home was displaced and relocated, it sat happily on a large lot off Dublin Boulevard where you could always see a couple horses roaming around the property … and a tall makeshift cross towering above the roof top.

Well, when they moved the home and took out the foundation, they left the cross standing right where it was, untouched.

To this day, amidst major development all around it, it stands there, greeting everyone driving home to Stetson Hills and Greenhaven.
